What to Expect

Because we enjoy seeing our friends and family, we often take a few minutes at the beginning of the service to exchange a warm welcome with the people we are worshiping with. A warm smile, a friendly hand-shake, and an encouraging word go a long way to set the tone for the morning’s activities. Feel free to participate as much or as little as you would like during this portion of the service.

Scripture says to make a joyful noise to the Lord. At First Friends, we sing a blend of some of the best-loved older hymns and some of the favorite contemporary worship choruses. You are welcome to join the congregational singing if you would like; or feel free to just enjoy the music. Listen to the words and allow the music and the message to speak to your soul.

Once a month, during the gathered worship service, we take the opportunity to celebrate the Lord’s Supper. The wafer or cracker represents the body of Jesus Christ as it was broken and the juice represents the blood of Jesus as it was shed on the cross. This service reminds us of all that Jesus did so we can be with him for all eternity.

One of the most important aspects of the gathered worship service is the opportunity we take to pray for one another. During the service, we share prayer requests and notes of praise as we support and encourage each other in our spiritual life.

One of the features of the Sunday morning service is the Sunday morning message. Pastor Robert takes the timeless truths of the Scriptures and applies them to our everyday lives. The messages inspire us and encourage us in our Christian life.

Following the Sunday morning message, we often take time to sit still and listen for God’s leading on how we should apply that morning’s message. We find that when we take the time to listen, God takes the time to speak.

Yes, we do take up an offering during the Sunday morning service, but we do it a little differently. There is an offering box placed in the entryway as you enter the sanctuary. We give our money to reflect our gratitude to God for his many blessings. As a guest, you are not expected to make a donation. The service is our gift to you.
